J. Crew - July (III)

I wasn't planning on a JC post today but since I popped into the store to look for a gift, I also took the chance to try on a couple of items I had my heart set on as well. First was the Stretch Boucle Jacket size S. I have the spring versions of this type of jacket (see photos here - several posts), and I have to admit I like this even better. It's made of a cotton/poly mix and instead of closing with a front zipper, it has hook and eye closures.

Stretch Boucle Jacket (similar here, here, here, here)

Sleeveless Shift Dress in Stretch Wool  size 6. I loved the bright colour of this dress, but the fit is not good on me. It fits across the chest, but there is too much fabric in the hip area, as it's meant for a curvier type body.

The sandals I am wearing are the Marina Mini-Wedge Espadrilles size 8, my regular shoe size. They fit comfortably on my feet. They are quite bright, as you can tell.

And as luck will have it, I was able to get my hands on a hot number: the August Style Guide! As my scanner will not communicate with my computer for some reason, I figured I would take photos of some of the pages to show you. Happy viewing! Let me know if you wish to know more details on some of these.

Have a great rest of the weekend, everyone!

  1. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to post the J Crew August Style Guide. I live oversea and cannot access any style guide, really appreciate being able to view the fall items on your blog. Thanks.

    1. Yes, the Schoolboy Blazer is longer. To quote straight from the catalog: "A new longer length, a ticket pocket and functional buttonholes on the cuffs."

For anyone who wants to know, Park Royal will have a new store soon. Wish they would put one in Oakridge already.

  3. Hi Rose, love that Bouclé jacket! The shift is a beautiful colour too, but I see what you mean about the cut. You'd need to get it tailored significantly around the hips.
Thanks so much for taking pics of the August style guide. It's great to get a sneak peak.
I'm very interested in the sweaters, although the fair isle in the last pic will be too $$ I think.
With any luck there will be less expensive items that will call my name....!!
Thanks again, I really appreciate your pics and reviews!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, ruth! Yes, the fair isle sweater is not cheap at $348, but since it is a collection item, it was to be expected.

    2. I will have to check to be sure, but I think that fair isle sweater has a back zipper, why J. Crew, why?!

    1. You are very welcome, gigi! They look really nice, don't they? The blouse also comes in a white called 'natural' and 'royal indigo.' It looks black to me, but maybe I am wrong.

  5. thanks, rose! My scanner usually tells me it's being "controlled by another user" so I'm a little afraid of it. I love the pics, and have suddenly become very interested in this rollout!

    1. Mine says it doesn't need a driver because my 'smart' computer doesn't need one for it. I beg to differ, but I am not willing to shell out for a new scanner just yet.

I love the colours, wff... no more neons!

  6. Thanks for sharing. I too am curious about the "new" schoolboy blazer. For some odd reason I now always look at the models hair first and no they still have not discovered a damn comb.

    1. Cheers, BB! There is just too much colour that distracts me from the models hair. :)

  7. Thanks so much for the preview, Rose! I couldn't pry a style guide out of them yesterday.

I'm anxious to see the new Schoolboy. At 5'4" the current length always worked well for me, and I have quite a few. Longer lengths i.e. Hacking often look frumpy on me.

    1. Sorry to read you couldn't get one.

My guess is somewhere in between the old schoolboy and the hacking, but what do I know? The hacking had very narrow shoulders so when I sized up to accommodate my broad shoulders, the hips were too big for me. This one may be just what I need.

  8. Thanks for sharing the catalog, Rose! Happy to see cerulean blue used in a button down, and am interested in the new schoolboy as well (love that page in the catalog).

  10. Thanks for the reviews. I was wondering how that boucle jacket would compare to the other renditions. I bought both of them and love them. How was the fit on this new one? Similar to the others?
Thanks so much for sharing the guide photos. I am looking forward to the new roll out.

    1. The most recent one is the better of all of them. I wore my micro-tweed ones a lot this spring, but I like this one even better. The fit is similar (I took my regular size S).

  11. Thank you so much for sharing Rose! I no longer have a store and it takes forever to get a new catalog on the West Coast. I love the valentina shoes in snakeskin and calf-hair but anticipate a very high price tag. I will tell myself they are not very comfy and talk myself down. I also like the jeweled sweater. Thanks again! :)

    1. The calf hair ones are $400. The price for the snakeskin is not listed. I suspect it's because they may not be sold in Canada.

  12. I was glad to see a real picture of the sleeveless shift dress, thanks! I've been on the fence about trying it for a long time. I think that what doesn't work on you might work on me (I am not so thin these days!) so I may give it a go if the price is ever right. I really liked the looks of that boucle jacket too. I saw it in a store but didn't try it on yet.

    1. It was on sale in the local store, so you may want to call and ask them to do a charge/send if the price is lower than the online price.

  14. Thanks for sharing the pics Rose! Picked one up today at the Pac Ctr store. Ah yes, neons are being replaced by richer, more fall-appropriate tones. Esp.love the mauves/plums/burgundy's. Also liking the more lady-like styling, messy hair aside. Some of the photos look very "instagrammed". Guess that's trendy with the younger set ;)

  15. Thank you for taking photos of the August catalog! :) I quite like some of the items, that fair isle sweater is darling...

Oof, but why did they mish-mosh those two lovely liberty prints into one button-up? Some liberty prints could work well together, but the two they chose, nuh uh. :-/
